The Struggle

I always thought I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always thought that once I got to college, the world would fall in my lap and I’d be a millionaire by 20… obviously. Then, it hit me... that was not how the world worked.

I believe a HUGE part of life is realizing that the world is vast, and God’s thoughts aren’t ours. Many dreams and ideas we have aren’t always meant to be our mission. The Lord is good, and following His plan for your life sometimes means sacrificing your dreams. The Lord calls us to Him, and the bottom line is that this looks like laying down your life to follow after Him—modeling after what He came to live for— a relationship with God in a sinful world.

If you are one of those girls who want so badly to be married, live in a little farmhouse with 100 acres, and stay home to raise babies, and you aren’t there, it’s okay. It’s good. The Lord has a good plan. Not an easy plan. Not always your ideal plan, but always a good one. Maybe one day you will be, but maybe one day you won’t. That’s the part about laying your life down. If it never comes, how will you respond? Will you continue to rejoice in the Lord if He calls you to singleness for life? Will you be thankful if you have fertility issues and cannot have babies? Yes, God can make miracles, but that’s not the point. The point is, whenever what you thought isn’t happening, will you feel like a failure?

How can you fail if the plan was never meant for you? You were made to love God and be faithful to Him in all things. This includes how we, as sinful people, define success.
